KUALA LUMPUR 11 November 2021 – Uplive hosted a special event for the Otaku (people of geek culture) in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand, in collaboration with World-renowned Japanese maid cafe – at-home cafe to organize the ULPIVE HALLOWEEN NIGHT Cosplay Costume Competition, where nine Uplive hosts dressed up to compete for the grand prize of 1,000 uCoins.
The three-day event took place from 29-31 October from 8 pm to 11 pm (MYT), where guest judges – Dreaming Ashley, Malaysian Cosplay Personality, and Karen Sakurai, Japanese Anime Convention Specialist & International Judge assessed the contestant’s performance based on creativity, originality, character, and personality.
For those unaware, the at-home café is a famous attraction in Akihabara, Central Tokyo, where people from all across the globe travel to experience the unique family-friendly maid-themed cafe. It is a comfortable environment for visitors to express their maid-master fandom and indulge in delectable kawaii meals served by waitresses dressed in maid costumes, similar to Anime, Manga and Games.
Through this partnership, Top Maid Idols from the at-home cafe made a live appearance during the costume contest and announced the launch of their new Halloween-themed song titled – メイドメア パーティー (‘maid-mare party’ in English) that premiered on their YouTube page at 10.30 pm, 30 October. At the live event, World’s #1 maid – the Legendary Maid Hitomi, a server who worked her way up to being the Chief Branding Officer and the most popular maid at the at-home café, wowed the entire southeast Asia audience with her special performance.
Uplive Malaysia and at-home cafe has hosted this event to not only entertain the huge anime fan-base in Southeast Asia, but also exercise the exchange of different cultural views and perspective between Southeast Asia and Japan.
