KELANTAN, 4 September 2024- Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail has attended to launch the Baitul Mahabbah facility in Tanah Merah Kelantan yesterday.

According to Saifuddin, the facility has been operational since 15 July 2024.

“Baitul Mahabbah initiative has been introduced by the Madani Government as a temporary placement to take care of foreign children who are under the age of 10 years old who has been detained together with their caretaker until their documentation process is completed.

Baitul Mahabbah serves not only as placement centre, but the children were also given basic education as well as various activities such as reading, drawing and singing.” he said.

Saifuddin hopes that the initiative will continue to take care of the children’s basic needs until their documentation process is resolved.

Commenting on the involvement of NGOs, Saifuddin said that there were several requests from several NGOs who were interested in participating to help the Baitul Mahabah initiative.

“The NGO approached when the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) held the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Budget Dialogue session.

At KDN, we are open to participation and the desire to help from the NGO. This should be the kind of relationship that we have and fostered.” said Saifuddin.

Despite that, he shared there are many NGOs who made a lot of statements but never even show up.

“So, I wish good luck to NGOs that take this stance, I can’t change them, if they choose (only) to be loud outside but if they choose to participate, we will welcome them.” said Saifuddin.
