PUTRAJAYA, July 4, 2024 – The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) continues to intensify enforcement actions against irregularities and smuggling activities related to controlled and subsidized goods, particularly diesel oil and RON95 petrol nationwide. This comes after the diesel subsidy rationalization in Peninsular Malaysia that began on June 10, 2024.
According to the Minister, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, in a statement today, a comparison between the 20-day period before and after the implementation of the diesel subsidy rationalization shows a significant decrease in cases involving diesel oil irregularities.
“From May 20, 2024, to June 9, 2024, a total of 65 cases were recorded, with 520,803 liters of diesel seized. However, during the 20 days after the subsidy rationalization (from June 10, 2024, to June 30, 2024), statistics indicate a drastic reduction, with only 14 cases recorded nationwide, involving a total seizure of 68,457 liters of diesel.”
This comparison reflects an 87% decrease in diesel seizures following the subsidy rationalization. The number of individuals detained in diesel-related cases also decreased from 40 to just one during the same period,” said Armizan.
However, there has been an increase in cases involving RON95 petrol seizures. From May 20, 2024, to June 9, 2024, there were 37 cases with a seizure of 17,064 liters of RON95 petrol, compared to 46 cases with a seizure of 14,011 liters after the diesel subsidy rationalization.
“The number of arrests has also increased from 10 individuals to 17 during the same period.”
KPDN will continue to enhance enforcement and monitoring actions against irregularities in controlled goods under Operation TIRIS 3.0 nationwide, in close cooperation with other enforcement agencies, to comprehensively and effectively address leakage issues.
