KUALA LUMPUR, 1 July 2024 – Asia’s premier pre-professional orchestra, Asian Youth Orchestra (AYO), will be making a return to Malaysia after 13 years for a spectacular evening of music. The highly anticipated concert is set to take place on 19th August at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS in a celebration of youth and artistic excellence through a vibrant and captivating programme.
Hailed by critics as “the finest among youth orchestras around the world,” AYO had been bestowed Japan’s Praemium Imperiale Grant for Young Artists, a global arts prize, in 2010, as well as the Nikkei Asia Prize in 2015 for Culture and Community. The awards not only recognise the orchestra’s outstanding achievements, but also the prestige they have attained and the profound impact they have had internationally on the arts.
Orchestra musicians are selected every year through a strict audition process. Successful talents will then attend an intensive three-week Rehearsal Camp before embarking on an international tour led by principal guest conductor Jader Bignamini.
AYO’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Keith Lau enthused, “Earlier this year saw the orchestra resuming live auditions for the first time since the pandemic ended, and we were overwhelmed by the response and support shown. The dedication displayed was commendable, where many candidates traveled far from their hometowns to attend the auditions. We were pleased to witness the skills and talent of these young musicians, and we cannot wait to begin the exciting journey this summer.”
