KOTA KINABALU, January 2024 – The Malaysian Association of Sports Medicine (MASM) is thrilled to announce the upcoming 18th Asian Federation of Sports Medicine (AFSM) Congress, in conjunction with the 8th Institut Sukan Negara (ISN) Sports Medicine and Sports Science Conference. This prestigious event is slated to be held at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, from April 26th to 28th, 2024. This congress represents a monumental collaboration among the Asian Federation of Sports Medicine (AFSM), the Malaysian Association of Sports Medicine (MASM), and the National Sports Institute of Malaysia (Institut Sukan Negara – ISN).

The recent press conference at the SICC in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, was graced by esteemed guests including Datuk Marina Chin, Chairman of the Board of the National Sports Institute of Malaysia (ISN); Dr. Tan Kah Hock, Chairperson of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM)’s East Malaysia Committee, Board Member of ISN and the Congress Advisor; Mr. Ahmad Faezal Md Ramli, Chief Executive Officer of ISN and the Congress Deputy Advisor; Dr. Chan Kin Yuen, Vice President of the Malaysian Association of Sports Medicine (MASM) and the Congress Organising Co-chair; Dr. Alston Choong, Vice President of MASM and the Congress Organising Chair; and Dr. Kiran Kandiah, Council Member of MASM and the Congress Organising Deputy Chair.

Dr. Chan Kin Yuen, in his opening remarks, emphasized the congress as a historic milestone in sports and exercise science and medicine in Malaysia. The collaboration between AFSM, MASM, and ISN exemplifies a unified commitment to advancing these fields. The congress is poised to be a global platform for leading experts to share and exchange innovative ideas, research findings, and advancements in sports and exercise science and medicine.

Datuk Marina Chin highlighted that the AFSM-ISN 2024 Congress is more than a standard gathering; it is a convergence of visionaries committed to advancing sports and exercise science and medicine not only in Malaysia but also across Asia and beyond. She emphasised the importance of active participation from all sports practitioners, including clinicians, scientists, coaches, athletes, para-athletes and sports administrators as through the exchange of the invaluable insights and unique perspectives from various experts will enrich the collective understanding of sports development. Beyond the advancement of sports performance, the mission of the congress transcends the boundaries of academia, our collective aspiration is to shape the Malaysia sports ecosystem driven by the culture of excellence, innovation and integrity. The congress aims to foster an environment where knowledge converges into action, and ideas turn into tangible initiatives. The role of media representatives in amplifying the significance of this congress is crucial in showcasing Malaysia’s initiative in advancing sports and exercise sciences and medicine and the sports development with unity and integrity.
