The Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), Dato’ Sri Nancy Shukri has expressed her appreciation to those working in the tourism, arts and culture sector throughout the world. In her statement yesterday, she praised the commitment and dedication of the team in the challenging times in order to ensure the industry would remain as a revenue contributor to the economy.
Nancy said that its importance in job creation and to facilitate cultural exchange among people in the world have motivates the industry players and instilled the confidence that the sector will be back its glory days.
“In view of positive developments throughout the world and on our extensive vaccination coverage which is now at its highest, Malaysia remains optimistic and is on the path to recovery. We look forward to a strong rebound for tourism due to pent-up travel demand.
On this special day, I would like to share that as a first step towards reopening of borders, Langkawi Island, the world-renowned island with its crystal-clear waters and white sandy beaches and is internationally accessible through direct flights from West Asia, Europe and Singapore was selected as Malaysia’s pilot travel bubble destination under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Tourism Recovery Plan. ” she said.
Nancy also added that this initiative serves as a benchmark that will allow Malaysia to reactivate tourism activities and interstate travel when the vaccination rate for adults reaches 90%.
“This strategy is a crucial step in restoring travelers’ confidence towards safe travels, as well as revitalizing tourism as part of Malaysia’s reopening of economic and social sector and a gradual return for inbound travel
With the anticipated success of this initiative, next, Malaysia is looking into the re-opening of international borders for tourists. The Malaysian Government is in the midst of refining the SOP for arrival of international tourists.” she said.
Positively, we hope that our cross-sectoral collaboration with other countries will reignite the interest of international tourists to travel again to Malaysia, once the international travel ban is lifted. Thank you and Happy World Tourism Day 2021!” said Nancy.
