KUALA LUMPUR, 7 June 2024 – The record number of new electric vehicle (EV) cars displayed at Malaysia’s largest international autoshow, the Malaysia Autoshow 2024, held recently, signals strong investor trust and a highly competitive market that benefits consumers, marking a promising indicator for the future of Malaysia’s mobility landscape.

Organized by the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics, and IoT Institute (MARii), the Autoshow featured over 200 brands and exhibitors with 47 launches. This surge in new models signals strong trust among global automotive manufacturers in Malaysia, ultimately promoting healthy competition, driving innovation, and offering more choices in the market. Malaysia Autoshow 2024 has been recognized by the Malaysian Book of Records as the largest international auto show.

This year’s edition also saw an increase in the display of xEV models, which accounted for 50% of the vehicles showcased. The strategic focus on EVs further underscored the strength of the local automotive sector, which is bolstered by robust policies such as the National Automotive Policy 2020 (NAP 2020) and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030). The Autoshow’s alignment with these policies highlights Malaysia’s strategic direction in creating an environment conducive to the ecosystem and the growth and development of EVs, Next-Generation Vehicles (NxGV), and Energy-Efficient Vehicles (EEV).

Eric Chan, CARSOME Group President and Chief Operating Officer, observed that the record number of new EV displays at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 mirrors the open data from the Malaysian government, where the EV registrations in Malaysia quadrupled in 2023 compared to 2022.

“During the Autoshow, we saw very positive signs and trends that EV adoption this year will again exceed 2023 figures. This expands the commercial choice for auto consumers in Malaysia as EV brands, both existing and new entrants, will compete to provide the best offerings to customers, not only in terms of price but also the best warranty packages, service, aftersales, and ancillary benefits such as charge credits and provision of free EV chargers,” said Chan.

CARSOME was the official trade-in partner of the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 as part of its commitment to improving customer centricity and enhancing the car ownership journey. During the event, CARSOME provided onsite inspection facilities and exclusive event-only offers, including an additional RM200 cash rebate for the first 100 successful transactions.

Azrul Reza Aziz, CEO of MARii, emphasized the significance of the Autoshow in driving the automotive sector forward. “This year’s Autoshow has truly highlighted the dynamic and innovative spirit of the automotive industry in Malaysia. We are delighted to have CARSOME as the official trade-in partner of the Malaysia Autoshow 2024. Their involvement is crucial in enhancing the car ownership journey for consumers. We look forward to their continued support in future editions, as we collectively drive the growth of the automotive industry in Malaysia.”
