28 May 2021 – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia. Dato’ Kamarudin Jaffar has delivered Malaysia’s Statement during the 30th Special Session of the Human Rights Council that deliberated on the grave human rights
situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem on 27 May 2021 in Geneva, Switzerland.

According to a statement issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) yesterday, The Special Session, which was held at the request of members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), received resounding support of 69 States.

“During the Special Session, Malaysia together with many other members of the OIC and Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), supported the Human Rights Council Resolution that among others, called for the establishment of a Commission of Inquiry (COI) that would ensure accountability and humanitarian supports for the Palestinians.

Malaysia emphasised that the Occupying Power must extend its full cooperation to ensure that the COI can perform its mandate effectively. We believe that only with accountability, justice and remedy can the Palestinians enjoy the human rights that they rightly deserve. Israel’s inhumane, colonial and apartheid policies must end for the Palestinians to have a dignified future.” said MOFA.

Malaysia has always been a strong proponent of the Palestinian cause and remains steadfast in voicing its support for the restoration of the inalienable rights of the Palestinians, including the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
