Bahrain Marks National Day and Half a Century of Diplomatic Relations with Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, December 10, 2024 – The Embassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Malaysia hosted a grand celebration at the JW Marriott Hotel, honoring Bahrain’s National Day and the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Malaysia. The event showcased Bahrain’s rich heritage, visionary leadership, and dedication to strengthening global partnerships.

The ceremony welcomed esteemed guests, including Malaysia’s Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development, The Honorable Datuk Ewon Benedick, and Bahrain’s Chairman of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, The Honorable Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa. His Excellency Dr. Waleed Khalifa Al-Manea, Bahrain’s Ambassador to Malaysia, expressed heartfelt appreciation to all attendees for joining this significant occasion.

In his address, Dr. Waleed reflected on Bahrain’s legacy as an Arab and Muslim nation, founded in 1783 by Ahmed Al-Fateh, and its remarkable progress under the guidance of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He highlighted Bahrain’s recent milestones, including its leadership in economic freedom within the Middle East and North Africa and its advancements in digital innovation on a global scale.

The celebration also highlighted the enduring partnership between Bahrain and Malaysia, established in 1974. Dr. Waleed praised the strong foundation of shared values and mutual respect underpinning their relations and expressed optimism about expanding collaboration across diverse sectors in the future.

Attendees were treated to a special presentation on Bahrain’s history and the evolution of Bahrain-Malaysia ties, as well as a traditional Bahraini performance, Al-Jalwa, reflecting the nation’s vibrant culture. An exhibition displayed Bahrain’s heritage and development achievements.

On the political front, Dr. Waleed reaffirmed Bahrain’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause. He underscored the necessity of a two-state solution, advocating for an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital in line with international resolutions. He also emphasized the urgent need to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, calling for the protection of civilians, the release of hostages, and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid.

Dr. Waleed highlighted Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to foster Arab and international cooperation on the Palestinian issue, including hosting Arab summits and supporting educational and healthcare initiatives for conflict-affected communities.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Waleed reiterated Bahrain’s commitment to promoting dialogue, sustainable peace, and human rights, along with its principled stance on Palestine. He expressed hope for continued progress and unity under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
