KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA September 9, 2024 – The Saudi Tourism Authority has introduced several key facilitation measures for Malaysian citizens, making it easier for them to visit Mecca and Medina. These efforts allow Malaysians to perform Umrah, visit the Prophet’s Mosque, and explore Saudi Arabia’s diverse tourism destinations, including its religious, cultural, and heritage sites in both holy cities, creating unforgettable memories.
Thanks to these enhancements, visiting Saudi Arabia has become more accessible and secure for Malaysians. Through the “Visit Saudi” platform or upon arrival at Saudi entry points, they can now easily obtain an electronic visit visa. This visa allows multiple entries and a stay of up to 90 days per year. Visitors can perform Umrah, pray at the Prophet’s Mosque, and even visit the revered Al-Rawdah Al-Sharifah, provided they book in advance through the unified government platform “Nusuk.”
Malaysia holds a significant place in the hearts of Saudi Arabia’s leadership and people. Due to shared religious beliefs and the strong fraternal ties that have formed the foundation of the relationship between the two nations—dating back to 1961 when Saudi Arabia opened an embassy in Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia opened one in Jeddah—unprecedented facilitation measures have been offered to Malaysians wishing to perform Umrah or visit the Kingdom.
In a key initiative to enhance services for Malaysian travelers, the Saudi Tourism Authority hosted an informational event in Kuala Lumpur aimed at the business sector, including travel and Umrah agencies. This event focused on elevating the services provided to Malaysians and helping them plan their vacations in Saudi Arabia.
Additionally, the Saudi Tourism Authority’s commitment to easing the journey for Malaysian pilgrims has led to the inclusion of Malay (Bahasa Malaysia) in the unified “Nusuk” call center, which operates 24/7 to assist pilgrims and visitors. Moreover, Malaysian women can now travel to Saudi Arabia without the need for a male guardian, making the Kingdom an attractive destination for international travelers, especially women, as recognized by global travel safety websites.
Enriching Umrah Experience
For Malaysians planning to visit Saudi Arabia, the journey no longer revolves solely around performing Umrah and visiting Medina. A key element that elevates the experience is the opportunity to explore the country’s rich heritage, religious, and cultural sites, making the pilgrimage an enriching and memorable adventure. Visitors are welcomed into the heart of Saudi hospitality, known for its warmth and generosity.
In Mecca, Malaysians can visit Jabal Al-Nour and the Cave of Hira, where the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) received the first revelation. There’s also the Kaaba Kiswa Exhibition, which showcases the intricate process of weaving the Kiswa (the cloth that covers the Kaaba), highlighting its history and the Quranic inscriptions adorned on it. Another historical gem is the “Lady Zubaydah Trail,” a famous route used by pilgrims traveling from Iraq and parts of the Levant to the holy sites, with remnants still visible today.
In Medina, after visiting the Prophet’s Mosque and praying in Al-Rawdah Al-Sharifah, Malaysians can explore Mount Uhud and the Field of Martyrs, visit the King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Quran, Quba Mosque, Qiblatain Mosque, and the Museum of Madinah Heritage, all of which offer a spiritually enriching and informative experience.
Exploration and Tourism
Performing Umrah will inspire Malaysians to further explore Saudi Arabia’s captivating destinations, each offering a unique climate, natural beauty, and vibrant culture. With a wealth of diverse events and activities, there’s something for everyone. The “Visit Saudi” platform and app, managed by the Saudi Tourism Authority, provide a comprehensive guide to all the activities, events, and tourist attractions across the country. Whether it’s exploring breathtaking landscapes, indulging in rich cultural experiences, or visiting historical landmarks, the app serves as a practical tool for finding restaurants, shopping spots, hotels, beaches, museums, and more. It also features an interactive map to help visitors plan their itinerary with ease.
One of the standout destinations is Riyadh, where nature’s beauty meets modern architecture. The city is alive year-round with cultural, artistic, and sporting events that nurture creativity. Key attractions include “Riyadh Boulevard City” and Riyadh Zoo, both open throughout the year. For a more authentic experience, visitors can immerse themselves in desert life at a traditional desert camp, where they’ll witness the splendor of the desert and enjoy the legendary Bedouin hospitality from local guides.
In the south, Asir stands out with its stunning natural beauty and diverse landscapes, while Al-Baha is known for its breathtaking valleys. Taif, with its mild climate and rich history, is famously dubbed the “City of Roses.” Another must-visit is Jeddah, known for its beautiful waterfront, offering a unique blend of entertainment and leisure activities. Its historic district, Al-Balad, is a UNESCO World Heritage site, where tourists can wander through ancient streets and admire centuries-old buildings. The district is also home to Al-Shafi’i Mosque, a 13th-century architectural masterpiece often referred to as the “Old Mosque.” Recent restorations have preserved its original elements, and the mosque’s simple yet elegant design invites visitors on a journey through time.
For those drawn to agricultural oases, Al-Ahsa is a top destination. Recognized as the world’s largest natural agricultural oasis, it is surrounded by endless desert and home to nearly four million palm trees, producing some of the finest dates globally.
