KUALA LUMPUR August 26, 2024 – Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has earned its place in the Malaysia Book of Records with the largest gathering of 370 units of the Golf at the 2024 Golf Fan Fest, held on the 24th of August at the Sepang International Circuit.
Volkswagen owners and fans from around the nation rallied together to participate in the historic celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Golf, while marking the occasion with this national record-setting feat.
The Golf is a well-loved Volkswagen icon with more than 37 million vehicles delivered in over 70 countries, making it one of the most successful cars ever produced. Now in its eighth edition, the hot hatchback has grown to capture the hearts and imagination of many for its innovative built-form, superb performance and distinctive style.
VPCM announced earlier this month that it released a limited number of 50 units for the Malaysian market. Available nationwide, the Golf GTI Edition 50 is fully assembled in Pekan, Malaysia, and has been designed with special features, making them highly sought-after for executives, collectors, and racing enthusiasts alike.
With a special commemorative “50” emblem in its steering wheel’s centre spoke and other signature embellishments, it is set to delight fans with upgrades in both the exterior and well-designed interiors. Priced from RM267,990 the Golf GTI Edition 50 comes with the Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP) which includes 5 years maintenance, 5 years unlimited mileage warranty, and 5 years of roadside assistance.
The Golf GTI Edition 50 made its public debut at the Fan Fest which drew in nearly 2,000 people. Owners, enthusiasts, families and friends – including an entourage from Singapore, participated in a hive of activities including a high octane gymkhana driving challenge, Golf R drift taxi rides and track sessions. There was also a showcase on the evolution of the Golf over five decades while the country’s biggest Golf fan was awarded amidst the fun festivities. From test drives to model car kit races, tech talks and workshops covering various aspects of Golf ownership, the day was a delight and treat for many.
Earlier this year, VPCM announced another milestone for Malaysia as it launched its Touareg R-Line, also fully assembled at the Pekan plant. This is the only other country outside of its Bratislava plant in Europe to produce this third-generation five-seater SUV for the international market.
