MCMC Hosts Girls In ICT Forum 2024, fostering leadership and empowerment for young women in technology

The Girls in ICT Forum 2024 aimed to celebrate female empowerment in the world of technology. This year's theme is "Leadership," featuring inspiring women from STEM fields who will share their stories and valuable insights.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 2024 (Bernama) – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) hosted the annual Girls in ICT Forum 2024 at M Resort & Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The event, officiated by YB Teo Nie Ching, Deputy Minister of Communications, attracted an audience of 300 participants, including industry leaders, guests and university students.

With the theme “Leadership,” this year’s Forum highlighted women’s achievements in ICT, encouraging careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). YB Teo Nie Ching’s opening address emphasised the importance of equipping young women with skills for a technology-driven economy and cultivating an empowering environment to overcome gender barriers.

The Forum’s agenda featured four engaging dialogue sessions with industry leaders, focusing on key areas such as digital literacy and ICT career development for young women, the importance of mentorship and networking in career progression, addressing gender inclusivity challenges in the tech industry, and the broader societal and economic impacts of ICT. Each session provided valuable insights and strategies to empower women in the technology sector and foster a more inclusive digital landscape in Malaysia.

The Girls in ICT Forum 2024 is part of MCMC’s broader initiative aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on literacy, social empowerment, and expanding opportunities within Malaysia’s technology landscape. By establishing such initiatives, MCMC is committed to nurturing the next generation of female leaders in ICT, paving the way for a diverse and innovative future.
