MALAYSIA, Penang August 9, 2024 – Today the AI Education Hub in Penang was inaugurated by the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Chang Lih Kang. The hub aims to elevate education and knowledge in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) among students from primary schools to universities, educators, and the general public.
According to Lih Kang, the demand for expertise in AI is increasing in the job market, aligning with investments received from global technology companies such as Microsoft, NVIDIA, and ByteDance. Consequently, this hub will play a crucial role in meeting the high-skilled talent demand in the technology industry, particularly in the field of AI.
“We are targeting approximately 3000 participants to be involved in the AI Education Hub initiative by 2025. I am confident that the available facilities will prepare our nation’s talent to drive AI technology development, positioning Malaysia as a leading AI hub in the region,” he added.
This AI Education Hub is the first of its kind in Penang and is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI) and the Penang State Government. It is supported by the *Consortium for Artificial Intelligence Education, comprising 13 renowned organizations.
The hub is equipped with various amenities, including the Artificial Intelligence Trainer GOTT-AIT-01, the CocoPi learning kit, Quarky, EDU PICO AI Kit, and AI equipment such as Intel GETI AI. Intel GETI is a valuable tool that simplifies and accelerates AI model development, making AI technology more accessible to all. It also provides robust tools to optimize performance, ensuring efficient AI applications on Intel hardware.
Since 2022, Tech Dome Penang has been focused on developing AI education. Initiatives include the AI Robotics Challenge organized in collaboration with MOSTI in 2022 and 2023. Additionally, AI Robotics classes were conducted for Tamil National-Type Schools (SJKT) in Penang during the same period.
Last year, Tech Dome Penang established the Consortium for Artificial Intelligence Education. In 2024, Tech Dome partnered with Kapten 88, GoTT, and INTEL to drive AI adoption in education, particularly through programs like AI4S (AI for Schools), AI4Y (AI for Youth), and AI4Uni (AI for Universities). Tech Dome Penang is also involved in the Cikgu Juara Digital program, a collaboration between MDEC and Intel Malaysia.
With numerous AI initiatives, the AI Education Hub has now become a reality for everyone.
