SABAK BERNAM, 4 August 2024 – This week marks the registration period for new students who have completed their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) in 2023. Institutions of higher learning, polytechnics, and community colleges across Malaysia are welcoming fresh students.
At Politeknik Sultan Idris Shah (PSIS), over 800 new students have successfully registered at Dewan Seri Lang during the New Student Registration Week for Session I 2024/2025.
Haji Zainuddin bin Kasmuri, the Deputy Director of Academic Affairs, emphasized the positive trend in enrollment. He highlighted that Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is no longer a secondary choice and is gaining more recognition. The 20% increase in enrollment reflects the belief of parents and students that TVET skills are essential to support the country’s industrial progress.
Malaysians are increasingly recognizing the market opportunities in high-skill areas related to technology and vocational training, making it easier for industry players to find skilled workers.
Furthermore, PSIS acknowledges the government’s commitment to realizing the National TVET agenda, aligning with developed nations.
Parents, on average, expressed gratitude during the registration day because their children were offered admission to PSIS.
PSIS, under the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT), is open to SPM graduates who meet specific criteria and is accessible to individuals of all ages. It offers 10 diploma programs based on industry demand.”¹
