KUALA LUMPUR, July 19, 2024 – The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM), Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, has received a courtesy visit from the Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to Malaysia, PYT Maria Angela Abrera Ponce at the Farmers’ Organization Authority Tower (LPP) last Wednesday.
It was the first meeting held since PYT Angela began her service in Malaysia at the end of November 2023.
According to KPKM, PYT Angela informed that Malaysia is the largest trading partner for the agricultural sector of the Philippines in the ASEAN region, and she has been tasked by the Philippine Government to strengthen agricultural cooperation, especially in the aspect of food security with Malaysia.
“Trade data for the year 2023 recorded an export value from Malaysia to the Philippines of RM5.41 billion compared to the import value from the Philippines to Malaysia of RM1.28 billion, contributing to a positive trade balance for the country.
Both parties have also discussed proposals to enhance bilateral relations in the field of agriculture between Malaysia and the Republic of the Philippines from the aspects of agricultural trade and technical cooperation in the sub-sectors of crops, livestock, and fisheries,” said KPKM.
At the end of the meeting, Mohamad invited PYT Angela to the Agriculture, Horticulture, and Agro-Tourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2024 scheduled for September 11 to 22, and also extended an invitation to the Republic of the Philippines to participate in the biennial event.
