KUCHING, SARAWAK – The Rotary Club of Kuching proudly celebrated its 84th Installation Dinner, a momentous event marking the installation of the 84th President and Board of Directors. This esteemed ceremony took place on the 7th of July 2024 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), with the Guest of Honour, YB Datuk Amar Professor Dr. Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Premier And Minister For Public Health, Housing And Local Government Sarawak, gracing the occasion.

The Rotary Club of Kuching has long been a beacon of community service and leadership, dedicated to making a difference in the lives of many. As the new President and Board of Directors were welcomed, this year’s inspiring theme, “The Magic of Rotary,” was embraced, reflecting the extraordinary impact Rotary continues to have on communities around the world.

YB Datuk Amar Dr. Sim reiterated the importance of community service not just by NGOs but by the general public, every chance they are able, “the wellbeing and development of the community is of course the priority the government, but we need to work closely with NGOs and members of the community to ensure that all pockets of the society are served.

“Sarawak has many similarities with Rotary, in terms of the value that you advocate. Just like Rotary, Sarawak believes in inclusivity, prosperity and environmental sustainability. We are working towards net zero by the year 2030. In Rotary, literacy and education are a key focus area. Sarawak also values education and that is why we have created our international schools where more than half of them are B40 where they receive free education”.

President Charlie added “the Rotary Club of Kuching is committed to serving our society to uplift and maintain the harmonious community that we have here in Sarawak”.

The avenues of service encompass a broad range of initiatives, including:

  • Community Service: Addressing local needs through projects that improve living conditions, health, and education. Notably, the Rotary Club of Kuching has established a kidney dialysis centre, providing critical support to those in need of renal care.
  • Vocational Service: Promoting high ethical standards in business and professions, recognizing the value of all occupations.
  • International Service: Advancing international understanding, goodwill, and peace through global projects and exchange programs.
  • Youth Service: Empowering young people through leadership development programs, scholarships, and exchange opportunities.
  • Club Service: Strengthening fellowship and ensuring the effective functioning of the club.

The event was a memorable celebration of commitment, leadership, and the continuous journey of service above self. The evening was filled with camaraderie, inspiration, and the unveiling of new initiatives that will further our mission to create positive change.
