No increase in electric tariff

PUTRAJAYA, 29 June 2024 – The Malaysian government has decided not to increase electricity tariffs for all users in Peninsular Malaysia from July 1st to December 31st, 2024.

According to Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) today, this is aligned with the Government’s commitment to ensure the livelihood of the people is maintained.

“Domestic users will continue to be protected through targeted electricity subsidies.

Commercial and industrial users will experience a 1 sen/kWh reduction in the ICPT surcharge during the same period.

The Government is continuing its commitment to ensure the livelihoods of the low income group is well protected under its RM40 Electricity Rebate Program. This targeted rebate is for the registered hard core poverty recipients under e-Kasih System with the allocation of RM55mil.” said PETRA.

Despite the no increase news, consumers are encouraged to use electricity responsibly and to continue to opt for energy efficient appliances. Under the Save 4.0 program, consumer can enjoy up to RM400 for the purchase of energy efficient refrigerators and air conditioners with 4 or 5 stars Energy Commission ratings.

“Consumer is also encouraged to install PV solar panels at residential areas under the Net Energy Metering (NEM). Under the new Solar for Rakyat Incentive Scheme (SolaRIS), the new user of NEM Rakyat who submitted the application to SEDA on and after 1st of April 2024 will receive rebate at RM1,000/kwAC up to maximum RM4,000.

User can expect to see the subsidized electricity by the Government in their monthly electricity bill. The Government hopes that the subsidies will help to lessen the cost of living and indirectly ensuring a continuous economic development of the country.” added PETRA.
