● Performing in Penang and Kuala Lumpur for the first time, Ataneres Ensemble’s Strings in the House concert has captivated audiences around the world with their blend of classical and contemporary repertoire.
● This visit celebrates Belgium’s National Day with the support of the Belgium Embassy in Malaysia and Flemish Government’s Department of Culture, Youth and Media.
KUALA LUMPUR, 24 June 2024 – Ataneres Ensemble, a dynamic, independent string orchestra from Belgium, is set to make its Malaysian debut with a multi-city tour in Penang and Kuala Lumpur this July. The visit, which takes place to commemorate Belgium’s National Day, is supported by the Belgian Embassy in Malaysia and the Flemish Government’s Department of Culture, Youth and Media.
Since the ensemble’s inception in 2017, Ataneres has established a distinguished presence known for exploring crossover ventures and experimenting with different genres, from the minimalist to the avant-garde. With Strings in the House (SitH), classical orchestration meets the structure of a DJ set in a blend of strings and analogue synthesisers. The result is a fusion as you have never heard before – house music backed by the lush harmonies of a string orchestra.
“In commemoration of our National Day, it is an honour for the embassy to host Ataneres in Penang and Kuala Lumpur,” shares His Excellency Peter Van Acker, Ambassador of Belgium in Malaysia. “The ensemble’s innovative interpretation of classical music and commitment to promoting Belgian contemporary music is both impressive and inspirational. This tour not only showcases the exceptional talent of the ensemble but also serves to strengthen the diplomatic and cultural ties between Belgium and Malaysia, further enriching our mutual understanding and meaningful collaboration.”
“As we anticipate Ateneres’ debut in Penang and Kuala Lumpur, I am delighted to note that this tour perfectly exemplifies Rondo Production’s commitment to bringing world-class performances to Malaysia, “ adds Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Kenny Ooi. “Strings in the House is a testament to our mission of inspiring local musicians to push boundaries and develop their own innovative programmes. We are proud to collaborate with the Belgian Embassy, whose support has been instrumental in making this concert tour a reality.”
The programme promises an eclectic mix of minimalist treasures, cinematic highlights, and accessible covers, brought to life by violinists Wim Spaepen and Cleo Dahan, violist Thi Ngoc Ha, cellist Karen Meyer, double bassist Daniele Giampaolo, Frederik Noel Martens on the keys, and electronic musician Jimmy Quintens.
As the ensemble expressed, This concert is not for the conformist, but for the curious.
Ticket pricing ranges from RM58 to RM88, for the Penang show on 19 July 2024, and KL show on 21 July 2024. Student tickets available.
