478

Anugerah Lagu Indie is a platform specially created to give recognition to indie songs, is now in its fourth year, and this time it is given a new lease of life as the indie music community has been waiting for!

This award has been organized as an annual event since 2020 with its main mission to empower the local indie music community by providing a platform to unearth songwriting talent, open to all Malaysians*.

In order to continue the agenda of raising the dignity and creations of indie songwriters, musicians and singers, Anugerah Lagu Indie were given a new lease of life by introducing the best song categories in Pop, Rock and HipHop genres, improving the scoring format by involving public voting as well as increasing the cumulative cash prize offer from RM 10,000 in the first season to RM 36,000 this year. Since 2020, Anugerah Lagu Indie celebrates various genres because the indie industry is not just alternative rock music, but crosses various boundaries of track, sound and composition. This award is currently in the nomination phase which will end on 31st January 2024 and celebrate the culmination on 7th March 2024.

Composers who create songs, writers who create lyrics, musicians who create rhythms, singers who contribute vocals, dancers who present action, as well as fans who never tire of supporting and encouraging indie artists to continue to be confident in producing original and quality work. Let’s discover the indie talents who were birthed from Anugerah Lagu Indie.

In 2020, Anugerah Lagu Indie received a total of 630 song entries, but only the best 13 songs managed to get a place to perform on #ALI2020 Finale.

#ALI2020 also introduced the Popular Song Award and  Carta Indie Kita. “Pelukan Angkasa” – Sekumpulan Orang Gila ft. Shila Amzah has successfully bagged both of the awards.

“Penawar” – Margosa was been awarded as #ALI2020 winners beating “Mesra” – Nusarasa and  “Menunggu” – Orkes A. Hizadin ft. Ainina Hasnul, in 1st and 2nd runner up respectively.

[2021] Season two :  “Enge Port” – Arunboii

Appearing three times on Anugerah Lagu Indie, Heidi Moru will not give up!

Participating in Anugerah Lagu Indie for three years in a row has not been on Heidi Moru’s side. The owner of this melodious and crackling voice from Sabah started to carve her name in the music industry since winned the 1st runner up in Bintang RTM 2018.

Heidi Moru’s first appearance at Anugerah Lagu Indie was in 2020 when she performed “Jika Ini Yang Terbaik” ft. Hasha Roslan by AIRM. Heidi returned empty-handed but returned to the Finale in the following year through “Bingkai Rasa” with Ruang Hati and “Kangen” with Kididanoto. Once again, it was unfortunate for Heidi as she returned empty-handed for the second time.

Without giving up, #ALI2022 once again placed Heidi Moru to perform on the final stage with her two own songs called “Senja” and “Cinta” ft Modread by Fami Ikhwan.

“Anugerah Lagu Indie is the only award created specifically to unearth and recognize the talent of indie (independent) song creators. It may be difficult for indie artist to carve out a name commercially in the country’s music industry, but the existence of ALI can fill and bridge the gap,” commented Heidi Moru.

For Indie Music

Due to the overwhelming response received by Anugerah Lagu Indie over the past three years, ALI determined to continue the legacy of organizing the award for the 4th time this year. Led by three (3) Co-Executive Producers, Ahmed Faris Amir who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Rakita 107.9; Loy Ekzan, media practitioner, indie community activist and one of the backbones of XFM which is known as Malaysia’s indie music platform until 2012; and Jennifer Thompson former producer of Anugerah Bintang Popular for 9 years and Anugerah Industri Muzik for 15 years.

“Anugerah Lagu Indie is not an award based on popularity, rather the indie element and the quality of a song itself are the main criteria in the judging component of the jury. This award is very important in adding variety to songs that are popular today through mainstream media,” said Ahmed Faris Amir, Co-Executive Producer Anugerah Lagu Indie

“ALI is important in the process of discovering and reaching new talent by playing the role of a platform actively followed by industry professionals, fans and other artists. A platform like this focuses on new artists, facilitates the ‘networking’ process, can be a collaboration opportunity between artists & brands as well as increase the brands of these artists among streaming platforms, social media and various media channels. The reach of ‘indie’ artist to a wider audience should be improved so that our own local industry can be more attractive than other “popular” awards every year,” said AG COCO, Jury of Anugerah Lagu Indie

“I think Anugerah Lagu Indie is an important platform for the music community. Not only for the purpose of giving recognition and honor to indie talent, but also to bring the music community and fans together to support this talented community – composers, lyricists and musicians. This is the fourth year, and we hope more people will join the mission to bring attention to indie talent. It’s not about winning or losing, but to introduce and highlight indie as a very important aspect of the music community to the public, “ said Jennifer Thompson, Co-Executive Producer Anugerah Lagu Indie.

Anugerah Lagu Indie will continue to recognize and support the indie music community in the hope that every work brought to this platform will be more widely accepted by Malaysian music fans.
