The Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM) is closely observing the recent developments in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) regarding finding a resolution to the ongoing conflict in the Palestinian territories.
ABIM emphasizes that the fact that proposal brought by Russia to establish a ceasefire resolution did not pass is a highly embarrassing failure.
According to the United Nations report, the failure is attributed to the fact that the proposal did not receive the support of at least nine UNSC member states.
In the voting, the proposal was only approved by four member states, namely Russia (the proposer), China, Gabon, and the UAE.
The proposal was rejected by the United States and the United Kingdom, while nine UNSC member states decided to abstain, including Albania, Brazil, Ecuador, France, Ghana, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, and Switzerland.
ABIM stresses that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is escalating into its twentieth day, with a death toll among Gaza’s population exceeding 7,000 casualties, involving children, women, and the elderly.
Therefore, ABIM emphasizes that all parties should prioritize humanitarian values as a means to save the lives of civilians by rejecting the interests of any political bloc.
This failure will also have an impact on global political stability because of the UN’s failure to play a meaningful role on the international political stage.
At the same time, in order to end this unrest, ABIM insists that all parties, especially the UN Security Council, should act immediately to stop Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories.
