Towards Sustainable Cities: Alam Flora Cyber Eco Hunt 2023 Setsthe Stage for Responsible Waste Management

KUALA LUMPUR, September 22, 2023 – Alam Flora, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Malakoff Corporation Berhad (Malakoff), further strengthens its commitment towards promoting responsible waste management practices and cultivating a culture of sustainability through the much-anticipated Alam Flora’s Cyber Eco Hunt 2023.

Flag Off was carried out by Chief Executive Officer of Alam Flora, Datuk Mohd Zain Hassan.

With the theme Towards Sustainable Cities, the annual event was held in the city’s bustling tourist hub, Bukit Bintang. This unique ‘race for environment’ saw the participation of 26 individuals comprising 25 influential Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), influencers, bloggers and, Ikhram Juhari, a renowned celebrity who has achieved fame for his stellar performance in the local action masterpiece, “Malbatt: Misi Bakara.”

Commenting on the event, Alam Flora’s Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Mohd Zain Hassan said, “Cyber Eco Hunt 2023 is not merely an event; it is a dynamic platform for fostering a collective commitment to sustainable urban living. As we embark on the journey towards sustainable cities, the Cyber Eco Hunt 2023 stands as a beacon of hope and collective action.”

The event’s innovative approach to addressing operational issues and promoting fundamental waste management practices is poised to contribute significantly to a greener and cleaner future.

Some of the 25 influential Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), influencers and bloggers were racing for the Cyber Eco Hunt 2023.

“The event endeavours to drive home the importance of simple yet impactful practices that can shape the future of our cities where through it, participants are exposed to a series of engaging challenges with each designed to highlight key aspects of responsible waste management, added Dato’ Mohd Zain.

The challenges were:

  • Checkpoint 1 – Eco Waste Challenge: Waste separation and proper disposal will take the spotlight in this checkpoint, stressing the significance of segregating waste for recycling and minimising landfill impact.
  • Checkpoint 2 – Zero Flying Trash Challenge: Reducing litter and flying trash becomes a priority here, encouraging participants to adopt mindful practices to prevent environmental pollution.
  • Checkpoint 3 – Waste-Free Drains Challenge: Addressing drainage issues, this checkpoint underscores the importance of keeping drains free from debris to prevent blockages and flooding.
  • Checkpoint 4 – Litter Clean Up Challenge: Participants will actively contribute to the beautification of public spaces by engaging in a litter clean-up effort, promoting a cleaner and greener environment.
  • Checkpoint 5 – The Cyber Eco Warrior Pledge Challenge: The event culminates with a pledge to be responsible stewards of the environment, as participants commit to ongoing sustainable practices.

Cyber Eco Hunt 2023: Towards Sustainable Cities

Information on cleanliness and environmental care through social media play an important role in ensuring that the community receives fast and accurate information for their daily activities. To that end, the influence of social community networks such as KOLs, influencers as well as bloggers are utilised to highlight environmental sustainability issues.

“It is hoped that the participants would now have new and profound understanding on key aspects of responsible waste management and, to play a prominent prole in opening the eyes and increase the awareness of netizens, as to further spread and viral messages in the cyber world, for the sake of environmental sustainability and the future of our children and grandchildren,” conclude Dato’ Mohd Zain.

This initiative is part of Malakoff’s business pillar, Malakoff Environmental Solutions’ aspiration to focus on environmental management and solutions that are dedicated to serving communities and the planet. It is also in line with the UN SDG Goal No. 11 where it aims at making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
