Kuala Lumpur, 24 August 2023 – In conjunction with their 75th anniversary, Tokio Marine Life Malaysia, TMLM, renewed its partnership with Make-A-Wish Malaysia to resume its support for children with critical illnesses and organised two movie experiences for these children at Sunway Pyramid, Bandar Sunway, and AEON Mall Kinta City, Ipoh. Giving them a much-needed break from their medical treatments, TMLM picked up where they left off continuing their long-standing relationship with Make-A-Wish Malaysia after a three year hiatus.

According to data from the Global Burden of Disease Study, about one million people under the age of 20 pass away each year from non-communicable illnesses (NCDs). Type 1 diabetes, cancer, congenital and rheumatic heart disease, sickle cell disease, and asthma are a few examples of these. However, cure rates for children are substantially greater than for most adult cancers, and up to 60% of all children can currently be cured completely. Recognising the need for proactive measures to protect children’s well-being, TMLM strongly believes that there should be significance in prioritising children’s health and protecting them from illnesses and diseases, given their vulnerability.

Through this renewed collaboration, TMLM is reinforcing its commitment to embodying its company vision of “To be a good company” by continuing to drive initiatives to better serve Malaysians. Through this initiative, TMLM aims to highlight the significance of supporting vulnerable individuals dealing with unforeseen medical circumstances and serves as a reminder of our shared responsibility to care for and protect the well-being of these courageous young individuals. It’s a testament to TMLM’s belief in the importance of community protection, support and empowerment, aligning with TMLM’s commitment to fostering positive change.

“We are delighted to once again join hands with Make-A-Wish Malaysia, a renowned organisation that has been granting wishes to children with critical illnesses. This renewed collaboration reflects our unwavering commitment to making a positive difference and bringing hope to these courageous young individuals and their families. Together, we can turn dreams into reality and create lasting memories,” expressed Mr. Yoshiaki Okabe, Deputy CEO of TMLM.

Ms. Irene Tan, CEO of Make-A-Wish Malaysia, expressed her gratitude, saying, “We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Tokio Marine Life Malaysia for standing by Make-A-Wish Malaysia since 2015. We are thrilled to resume our partnership and continue our mission of bringing hope, strength, and joy to the children we serve. We thank TMLM for their unwavering support and look forward to creating unforgettable experiences for these deserving children.”

Mr. Thong, a wish-parent, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the invitation, sharing that although his daughter Zhi Lin is still undergoing treatment, she is excited to be at the cinema. Puan Idatun, another wish-parent, expressed gratitude for the event, especially for bringing happiness to their fighter, Wan Adham. Kugendran, a child whose wish was granted in 2015, described the movie outing as a much-welcomed experience for his family, conveying profound gratitude to the organisers. These stories exemplify TMLM’s commitment to making a positive impact in children’s lives through meaningful and joyful experiences.
