Hangover Club at PJ 3 2 Square hosted the Retro Sunsplash Charity Party last Sunday, 6th of October 2019. Already in its 10th year instalment, who would have expected a get together of DJs of all time back in 2011 would bring hope to charity houses in the Klang Valley. The combination of good ol’ music and charity are indeed one of the best ways to get it done.

Despite good demand, music of the 70s, 80s and 90s were a scarcity when they first started the party. And while doing that Francis Koh (Francis K) and Jay Subramaniam (Jazzie Jay) decided to rally up friends from the entertainment industry, be it the DJs, sound and lighting supplier to do good cause as well. The event has been done in clubs like CJs (now where Hangover is), Dirty Nelly’s KL, Retro Club, Zero 11 Sunrise Mont Kiara, Rock Bottom Bangsar and Foursome at Jaya One, PJ.

To date, there are 4 homes that has benefited from this charity event. The Persatuan Kebajikan Jagaan Sri Sai Selangor, Klang will be receiving its aid for the 5th time from this event. The short interview I had with Francis K, shed some light into the selection criteria of these homes.

For obvious reasons, underfunded private homes who took in children as young as babies to school going kids, who are in dire need for daily necessities like food supply has been chosen. Like Persatuan Kebajikan Jagaan Sri Sai, housed about 40 kids and to keep the running of the house and the welfare of the children, they rely on donations. Retro Sunsplash is an annual event with all proceeds going to the chosen homes.

The atmosphere on that day at Hangover was splendid. Friends get together to contribute and to enjoy good music. The participating DJs are Francis Koh (Betelnut/Voodoo), Jazziejay(Rumours/Hard Rock Cafe), Charles B(Tin Mine/Juliana’s), John Dev/JD (The Jump/Zeta), Nesh (DV8/Nouvo), JJ Jelly(Juliana’s), Jason Martin(Planet Hollywood/Cafe Iguana), Adrian G (Cafe Iguana) and Double D (radio 4/Traxxfm).

So, there was I feeling all retro, catching up with buddies and trying to remember what memorable event that made some tunes hard to forget ?. That’s how I remember some things, by music. And good ol’ music like what’s served at Retro Sunsplash indeed brought back a lot of nostalgia.

Congrats to the committee for keeping the tradition of music gives back to society. This is truly awesome indeed. Charity, Fabulous Music, Good Times and Great Friends!
